Camera Case - Unloaded

I get a decent number of questions asking me what I shoot with, do I use X or Y or whatever... so to make it easier I recently just took a photo of what's in my camera case, and then dumped it out so folks could get an idea of what tools I use (admittedly some more than other's).

If you dump out my camera case... this is what falls out. Too see what it looks like packed inside see this photo.

Pelican 1614 Hardshell case w/ rollers and adjustable dividers
Pelican 1609 Lid Oranizer for 1600 Case
Pelican Silica Gel Pack (for removing moisture, able to be used over and over)

Tech Details: If your curious how one takes a photograph of all of one's photo gear the answer is you borrow a friends camera from down the street (a Rebel XT/350D with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L lens).

Lighting provided by one White Lighting X1600 to camera right difused through a large softbox, with Westcott 42" Silver reflector to camera right to just bring in some fill light. A short roll of White Savage Seamless just hanging off the knuckle arm of an Avenger C-Stand (easier and quicker than getting out a big background stand). Triggered by a good ole-fashioned sync cable connected to a Nikon AS-15 on the hot shoe since the RebelXT/350D lacks a PC Sync connector.

NOTE: This photo made it into Flickr's 'Explore" as one of the top five hundred most interesting photos on a particular day. You can see all of my photo's that have made it into the Flickr Explore pages here.

    $$$ :D

  14. fensterbme says:

@Phil Romans: I don’t think I’ll ever upgrade the macro lens… I love my existing macro lens and it’s already razor sharp…

The new 100mm L macro isn’t really any sharper and I think stabilization on a macro lens is kinda silly. I mean a lot of my macro’s are on a tripod because I’m shooting f/18 to f/32, so four stops isn’t going to buy me nearly enough to eliminate the tripod. It’s also probably my least used lens.

@-Edward-: Ok so what are you dude, myopic?

… the gear has more than paid for itself. So I don’t have a problem paying for gear if that camera gear can make me money.

  21. fensterbme says:

@mylobukit: Like it’s hard to find 10 min to clean up a case? Not saying I’m always tidy, just a simple moment in time (that’s kinda how photographs work) where things were…

  22. Haydn Rydings Photography says:

holy crap, i bet that lot cost a fair whack!! :)

  23. Derek Dirks Photography says:

Just curious, in all of your gear shots I see no lens hoods. Do you not use them at all or are they stored in a separate case? I can never seem to fit the lens and hood into my bag.

  24. fensterbme says:

@Derek Dirks: I own hoods for all of my lenses, but I only use them on some lenses. I store most of my hoods reversed on the lens hey connect too… some lenses have weird shaped hoods and I just stuff them some place else (I like to stick them around the back end of the 70-200mm which usually has some extra space).

I use hoods primarly to protect the lens, but also to reduce flair… I refuse to use UV filters as they suck and degrade the image quality.
